WSC # 44 - wedding card

It's Sunday and once again I'm hoping to get my card for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge uploaded before the thunderstorms get started here in Florida. (Note to self: start working on these on Friday night during the summer or you may get "rained" out, like I did 2 weeks ago.)

I've been making a wedding card with the same materials for about 2 years. (I tend to be a creature of habit and when I find something with which I am comfortable, I don't change very frequently.) But I liked the idea of using my old standard materials in this new sketch.

Another challenge twofer: AFSS13 & Hero Arts Hello Birdie challenge

There's just not enough hours in the day, week, month...... well, you get the picture.

There's SO many fun challenges out there and not enough time. So, I'm doing another twofer; one card to submit for two different challenges.

I love Allison's blog, Stampin' When I Can. I have played in a couple of her challenges before, but have been time challenged the last few weeks. This week's challenge, AFSS13, using just scraps looked easy enough. Then I also read the challenge for this week at the new Hero Arts blog. Their challenge this week, Hello Birdie, wants a project with a bird image/theme and 1 Hero Arts stamp.

So here's my project for both challenges.

I went through my paper scraps looking for spring-y, floral images. I found the 5 included here. Only 2 of them are from the same company; the other 3 are just random.








The Hero Arts stamp is the Spring stamp used as the background. I don't currently have any HA bird stamps, but maybe that'll change soon.


I stamped the Spring stamp with Hero Arts shadow ink to give it a softer, more muted feel. Then overstamped the birdie with Colorbox ink. After distressing the edges of the white panel, I inked them with the shadow ink.

This was a really fun card for me to do. Lisa Spangler, the featured blogger at Hero Arts this week, described herself as "The Bird Woman". I, too, just love birds. We have a pet cockatiel, Colonel. I regularly feed peanuts to the birds (and squirrels) at work.

Last night as I was getting my walking/exercise in, I shot this photo of a bird's nest in the neighborhood.

Challenge twofer: WSC #43 & April Fool's

At Yahoogroups RangerInkLink the challenge for April was to make something funny. I've known for awhile the stamp that I wanted to use, but just couldn't decide on a card design.



Luckily Beate's Weekend Sketch challenge #43 solved the card design problem for me. :)




The stamp in question is from Inkadinkado. I used clear embossing ink with silver embossing powder. The sentiment panel was edged with Krylon silver leafing pen. I die cut the chocolate kisses from metallic silver cardstock with a Quickutz die. The Hershey's paper is some old Creative Imaginations scrapbooking paper.

remembering.....

Our supervisor at work is leaving us to move to Ireland. How tough is that?!? Since I'm the unofficial card maker at work, I knew that I wanted to do something special not only for her going away card, but I also wanted to make a special gift for her from our office. She's an RN and all too often, nurses get little kitchy nursey gifts; and none of us wanted that.

Using PSE I took one of my squirrel pictures, enlarged it and cropped it down. The actual print is 4 x 6 inches. I got a pre-cut mat to fit a 5 x 7 inch frame. Since I wanted more of the emphasis on the picture than on the matting/framing, I kept everything black. But I wanted something more, so I went through my old Making Memories rub-ons, until I found just the ONE!

For those who are still reading and wondering WHY a picture of a squirrel? Carolyn started feeding the squirrels that live around our little office/house last year when she first came to work with us. She's infected me with the feed the squirrel bug. So this is a memory that's important to me and I like to think for her, too.

WSC #41 - travel on my mind

Another weekend and another sketch challenge from Beate.

We're going to Europe in May and I'm mentally getting ready for traveling. Stamps, scrapbooking paper -- it's all fodder for my imagination. I decided for this card challenge that I wanted to satisfy this interest by doing something with a travel theme.

Materials used: stamps: Thai travel (Limited Edition), Map of the World (Inkadinkado); ink: clear embossing ink, Vintage Photo distress ink, Antique Linen distress ink, Black Soot distress ink (Ranger); embossing powder: super fine detail black (Ranger); corner punch (EK Success); adhesives: Pioneer mounting tape, Xyron, pop-dots; cardstock (unknown -- all from stash).

Vintage birds

It's been three weeks since we went up to visit my son and daughter-in-law at college. We saw the last regular season basketball game during the day and my daughter-in-law and I crafted that evening.

The background panel was my handiwork that evening; Clear embossed on glossy cardstock, then rubbed Adirondack Paint Dabber all over, with the embossing resisting the paint. Emilie did the same, but used a different paint color (cranberry) instead of Pebble, which I used. I've had the panel since then and have been trying to figger out what I wanted to do with it.

I had gotten the rub-ons (Me & My Big Ideas) awhile ago; the vintage rubber stamp is new. I needed it: 1) I had a Michaels coupon (gotta use those things!!!), 2) on my birthday card from the kids it said, "You're not old, they call it vintage".

So, I had the panel embellished to that point; I mounted the panel to black, giving it a grey tone. (Interestingly, when I used forest green, the Pebble color looked sage-y.) But I still wasn't sure how I wanted to finish the card.

Then another new purchase came into play. Got Birds Galore at Joann Fabrics and knew that I wanted to play with one or more of the bird stamps in that set. So we added a birdy. (Probably should have mounted my main panel on forest green, since the bird was stamped in sage!!)

WSC #40 Happy Birthday

I've missed a couple of weeks of Beate's weekend sketch challenge.


So I knew that I wanted to get back into the swing of things this weekend.

Beate's sketch is at the right.

My take on it is below.

I have to say that I feel kinda guilty even submitting this for the sketch challenge. There's no stamping on it!!!

And the round element on the upper left just didn't work for me (as much as I tried different sized circles). Then there's the matting, which isn't exactly according to the sketch.

But since Beate's drawing was the inspiration for this card (and since I'm very happy with it), I'll submit it anyway with a big thanks for a fun drawing.

And since it's for my grandson's 10th birthday (yikes, the first one in double-digits!!!), I'm doubly grateful for the inspiration.
